Just found my Moms camera bag. Interesting contents. A Canon Canonet 35mm camera in a full leather case. Has all manuals. Ricoh BC-605D folding flash unit with manual. Minicam Twinklite 60 electronic flash with power cord, battery pack and manual. Canon 55mm conversion B filter. Kenko SR 60-2 55mm R-1 filter. Various flash conversion charts. A Kodak mailer (1st class mail stamp is .10 cents) and a Safeway photo service packet that mails finished, printed photos directly to your home for $2.72. All in a tooled leather case.

What a neat find. Is there any value to any of that? Curious.

The Canonet is a rangefinder. Best clue on value is to check EBay because the market governs value. Depending on how it was “stored” it may need replacement of seals.

Happy find!

Depends on specific model and condition.

The value of the Canonet will vary widely on the model. The QL-17 GIII, properly QLA'd, can be a great addition to a film rangefinder collection, even rivaling some Leicas in performance. I recently purchased one, fully refurbished, and love it. It yours is a QL-17 and you wish to restore it, PM me for the location of the fellow who did such a wonderful job on mine. As to posted prices, I doubt you will find any that properly reflect the true value of this camera.

You called it a QLA’d. I did not find that terminology in any of the manuals. How did you determine a “type” or model designation? I’m thinking perhaps because of the lens?

It’s most likely a QL-17. I would try to match your with what you see advertised. Also locate the serial number. You should be able to find out when/where it was made. I’m more familiar with Nikons—and they list the serial numbers by range as to when they were made.

Thanks. Not certain it needs refurbishing. I don’t think it was used much at all. Very clean, no sign of wear and seems fully functional although I have not put any film through it.

I have a new in box Nikon FG-20. Not as collectible as your Canonet....

I'm sure it's value is to you only!
Do you have, that you know of, any pics, possibly family pics that were taken with it?
You say it wasn't used much.
We have boxes of pics taken with my mothers plastic Kodak Hawkeye!!!
Cool find!!! Is your mother still alive to answer questions?

Regretfully, my mother passed 15 years ago so no answers there. I have a lot of pictures that she took on various other cameras, none of them were 35mm. Apparently she used mostly slide film in this camera. I have just gotten a Epson V600 scanner to digitize old family photos and slides.

Despite low use and looking good, by now any lubricants (shutter, aperture) are probably pretty much gummed up, so, yes, it needs to be refurbed.

Sorry, it's the drugs...... I meant CLA - Cleaned, Lubricated, Adjusted.
