SD card or camera?

I have a Canon 7D Mark II camera. I have had SD cards from two manufacturers that Photoshop has been unable to read. Reformatting the cards does not help. The CF cards have not shown the problem, although I only use them for backup. I figure it must be the camera that is the problem. Anybody else run into this? Note: I have already sent the camera back to Canon and it is still under warranty.

If it happens one multiple cards, then it must be the camera.

Were they formatted in the camera? Were you able to see the images on the LCD screen? Do you have any other software that allows you to view images and were these images viewable? While it could be the camera, if Photoshop is the only software that can't read them its possibly a software corruption not a camera issue.

When you say the CF card doesn't have the issue, although you only use them for backup, are you writing JPG's to the CF and RAW to the SD cards? Is it possible you need to upgrade ACR so that Photoshop can read the CR2 RAW files?

I read only RAW files. ACR is up to date.

Who knows. You're trickling out relevant information in dribbles over multiple posts. If it is a camera problem, let Canon determine as you did say you've already sent in for a repair.

You didn't say what brand and type of SD cards, nor the computer and OS, nor the PS version, nor why you're using your SD card as primary where the camera considers that CF card as primary and the faster of the two cards (depending on the specific CF used).

Beyond PS, you didn't say if the computer OS can recognize the card and whether the OS can manually copy the files to the HD, which would indicate a PS-specific issue and not the card nor camera. You didn't say if you've installed the Canon software and whether DPP can access the RAW files nor whether the EOS Utility can be used to copy the files from the card to the computer.

At this point, you've sent the camera away, so who knows ...

What does it mean when you say PS has been unable to read? Does that mean you're getting an error message? If so, what does it say? Or, are you getting pictures that don't look right, either total garbage, or a photo with, say, a pink overcast? Are you trying to import directly from the card? What happens if you move the photos to your hard drive and import from there?

I use Photoshop CC and Windows 10. Bridge and Windows 10 do not give thumbnails or recognize the files. Once the card has been removed from camera and replaced the camera also can no longer view the files. I can copy the files to hard drive but still cannot open them or view thumbnails.

And if it comes back with no problems. If it were me I would have done a bit more trouble shooting before sending it in. You didn't do enough testing to rule out a software or computer issue.

Nor can any other camera.

I think you've misunderstood ... removing a card from the camera, inserting into a reader or directly to a computer and copying the files and then replacing the card back into the original camera, that presents ZERO issues in the camera's ability to access / display those images nor continue to write new images to the card, assuming available space. What the OP has described is rather unusual behavior that is inconsistent with how their EOS 7DII model should behave as well as inconsistent with other types and brands of DSLR.

You misunderstand me. The same card is taken out and put back into the camera. It should be able to read the files.

Have you tried transferring pic(s) from camera via cable or wifi? This would allow you to know if software reads your file format. Won't tell you if card reader on computer or SD card is problem.
