This is the bloom I did the shots of I posted the last few days. It is at the end of life. But there are three buds showing in the shot. (This plant had pure yellow flowers 3 years ago when I got it, now they are yellow and lavender/purple.
The other pot has plants that were pure lavender/purple, that pot also has three buds which are showing a bit of lavender/purple-by Thursday or Friday I should know what I have. When I bought them in early 2016 they were single blub/plants in a very small pot. They are now in a medium size pot with at least 5 or 6 bulbs showing in each pot. I believe I will take them out, separate them and put half in pots as part of my movable jungle for pictures of the bird baths and put the others in one of my flower beds. I have been working on the back yard for 2+ years, the wife wants me to fix up the front yard now. I think I had better start doing that since A) I love her & B) she is a retired OR/Surgical RN and Surgical Tech and knows how to use sharp things plus being 9 years younger she runs faster than I do.
5DIV, Tamron 180 macro, hand held, no flash, late morning back lighting a 3 shot stack
Ahhhh! that yellow back ground strikes again, it came out a bit darker than I processed it.

While the Iris is quite beautiful and the lighting is great the background is quite distracting with all of the octagonal spots shining so brightly.

I had just watered the plants, those are back lit water drops. I could redo the PP and separate the flower from the background then darken the background so all that is toned down. Maybe, if the spirit moves me.

Or maybe not have them appear at all?

That would require a BUNCH of PP work.

Nah, just a bit of planning before shooting.

You mean like don't water the potted plants.
I live on a hill side on the edge of the desert. Winds up slope and down slope during the day, very low humidity, it dries out my pots and flower beds and kills the plants - so I water them at least once a day, first thing in the morning and last thing at sundown.

No Like using a little diffusion to soften the back lighting or a card to block it

Well that is not likely to happen because I basically have an aversion to being a walking photo studio. Comes from trips to Disneyland and the like when the kids were little. (well the Army insisted on me carrying even more) My wife would hand me her camera, the diaper bag, the shoulder bag of treats and drinks and the movie camera. Then wonder why I got tired, fell behind, took breaks on the nearest bench etc. She also wondered why I couldn't take still pictures with my camera and do movies at the same time.
So, my style is now minimalism - camera - maybe another lens - maybe a flash. If I can't figure out how to get the shots with that, they don't really need to be taken.
