First time posting.
Here is a cacoon of a pray mantis. We did not know what it was, but Sat. I saw a bunch of them all over our fairy garden. And also a robin that is just finishing laying her eggs.

You were very fortunate to watch the mantis(s) hatch. Your picture is a new, educational experience for me. Thank you for the post. If you don't mind, I want to keep a copy of the first two for my insect file. For several years I wrote a wildlife column for two small newspapers. I have stopped that but I add to the files for my own enjoyment. Since I do not know your location, I am unsure from the juvenile pictures just which species of the Mantid family you have in your garden. My reference says the hatchlings usually prey on one another so that few survive.
One of those critters in the top photo looks like what crawled out of the already made garden salad I bought at Walmart this afternoon. Good source of protein I guess.
You are very welcome to keep them, I'm from Lorain Oh. if that will help. And thank you for your comment.
Murex, you are more the welcome to keep the picture, and I'm from Lorain, Oh. if that helps.
TheStarvingArtist, I guess that I'm lucky that I don't eat salads, that would be turn anyone away from eating them.
