B&H shows 2 used 5DIII bodies for sale. About $1400-$1500. Used can be a good deal. The Canon site shows the refurbished 5DIII's as being out of stock. It does list new 5DIII's, but also out of stock. Canon shows Frye Electronics as being an in-stock source for new 5DIII's. About $1900. Since they are listed by Canon I would expect them to be reliable. Canon also shows Tiger Direct (very good dealer) and Greg's, but both at higher prices.
As far as a full frame for sports, unless you are going to go to a 1Dx, 1DxII, or 5DIV, the 5DIII is as good as you can get in Canon.

I own both the 5Dlll and the VI. The 5Dlll is excellent for sports although the VI has a slightly faster frame rate. It also seems to have greater dynamic range. Highlights from sports jerseys will hold detail with shadows not going too dark. The 1DXll is insanely fast and extremly rugged but at 6K it's really not worth it for me. If you can get a 5Dlll in the $1500 range, go for it. You won't be sorry.

Try www.greentoe.com . They are kinda’ like the Kayak of travel business. I bought my 7D2 and 16~35 f/4.0 L IS from them. You tell them the price you’d like to pay, provide a credit card, which will not be charged, unless they find the item you are looking for and at the price you want.

All items are new and USA warranty and free shipping. Apparently they have lots of contacts, as both the lens and body I bought came from camera dealers that I had never heard of, but no surprises or hassles.

As Mark mentioned, below, I also own the 5D3 and it is a fabulous body.

Hi Don,
I have not had experience at mbp.com, bot others have posted positive experiences. Here are listings of the 5D MIII.

I have the camera. It's fabulous!!

Think about a used or refirb from B&H. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/801760258-USE/canon_5260b002_eos_5d_mark_iii.html

or start thinking about a new Canon 5D mark iv. You might consider a different newer similar Canon FF. Waiting too long can back fire. I had a similar thing happen back in 2009 when I bought my first DSLR, The model I wanted seemed to only come in kit form and I had already purchased a high end 16-50mm f/2.8 Zoom for it. I found a body only at a real camera shop some 70 miles from home. Good luck.

I have a 5DMK3 and would be interested in selling. I am planning on moving up. It has about 20,000 shots.

I have owned th5 5D MKII, III & IV, all great cameras. But for sports and action go with the 70D MKII, easier to use, great fps and you get the 1.6 lens factor..
