Looks like a nice place to spend time. I kayak and even though I have never rolled, don't have the nerve to take a good camera on the water - well done!

Thanks Country Boy for your comments on this series. It is indeed a very fun place to spend time. My kayak is not the type that you can do rolls with. It's an open seating area. The kayak is very stable and I feel very comfortable taking my good camera out in it. I have a towel between my legs and the camera sits on that then another towel over the top to keep the sun off of it and to prevent the occasional water drips from the paddle. I would DIE if I ever lost my good camera the kayak. I do have a waterproof point and shoot camera that I have taken out in it when I have tried surfing the kayak in waves. Thanks Country Boy for visiting this post!

Thanks Greg for the kind comments on the photos. The woman in photo #2 is my friend and she enjoys being photographed. I presume you were talking about her!

That woman likes being photographed so much that she has asked me to photograph her again. It's great when you have a willing model!
Greg, do you photograph models?
I am learning so much about lighting and what works and what doesn't work......it's all a learning experience.

So, you obviously didn't get that "klutz gene" like I did. I've thought about taking my camera out in a kayak or small boat, but I'd be scared to death I'd drop it overboard. Nice shots, Brent.

never had a problem dropping it or getting it wet. my big problem is trying to keep the camera steady while shooting.

I wondered about that too.......but after a couple of trips out on the kayak without a camera, I realized that it was stable enough to not be worried. Thanks cameraf4 for your thoughts on this one.
I did one Klutz move recently.......I dropped my 24-105L Mm lens off a two story building onto concrete. That was a $1000 lens. As it was going down I watched in slow motion and a sickening feeling overcame me. Live and learn eh cameraf4?

merrytexan, I'm glad I'm not the only one taking their camera out in a kayak. I don't have a problem keeping steady while shooting......With a high enough shutter speed and with IS on you shouldn't have a problem.
