Le Tour Eiffel - Paris

Completed in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest man made structure in the world until the Chrysler Building was completed in Manhattan. It is BIG close up, and difficult to frame without making it look like a bridge abutment. I decided to walk the streets and shoot the tower as it would be viewed in surrounding neighborhoods.

The first shot is from the right bank of the Seine showing the overall structure. The domed building on the left is a Russian Orthodox Church adjacent to the Russian Embassy on Boulevard Lannes.
The remaining are views of the tower from surrounding streets. The second shot illustrates the limits placed on building height and design from the George Haussmann plan of 1853. Six stories max height (floors 0 to 5 - Parisian numbering where ground is floor zero), upper floors of mansard style, corner roof usually rounded and pleasing to the eye.

Try shooting the tower from the arc de triumph, especially at dusk when the tower lights come on and there is still light in the sky.

I was surprised by how high up we were from the top of the tower. I fear heights and have trouble standing next the the plate glass in a skyscraper. Yet at the top of the Eiffel Tower, I was high enough that my fear went away.
