Is photography a dying art form? I never expect all that much from public forums such as this. I find it more of an amusement more than anything. My case in point is: Why bother trying...

I never expect all that much from public forums such as this. I find it more of an amusement more than anything. My case in point is: Why bother trying to improve yourself if your fellow photographers don't have a clue of what is unique or just another damn picture of a bird in a tree.
Photography is an ever changing perspective. Don't take the easy way out by going main-stream, or taking only the safe shots that get you praise from people that only think like you do.
I have always tried to better myself by looking for that shot that might be a little edgey, or not liking to the general publics taste.
I find that most shooters today would use the great works of art as toilet paper.

No. Only if you let it die. Photography seems to be more popular than ever. Yes, that means a lot of bad photographs, but there are a lot of great photographers out there, and on this board as well.

Thats absoutely correct Stef. I have a friend who's favorite line is "Man your expensive camera sure takes great pictures for YOU!" I notice you, like so many others have to list all the equiptment that you have on hand. I would give my left n-t
for what you have at your disposal. Not envy by any means, just unable to figure out why it's needed. Especially in an art where you better not have an ego problem.

I suppose that's why with some of us, photography comes down to a hobby of collecting stuff; as much as anything else.

I keep looking for that, "something completely different shot". Over the years, I've been there, done that so many times it has become a bore. Then maybe I am just not one of those dedicated people to anything; but more or less a jack of all trades. My interests; quite often exceed the time I have to spend, to satisfy them all. Oh Well!!. :-(

I shoot for myself, not for others. if people like my shots that is fine and it puts a smile on my face. If people don't like my shots that is fine too! I freely admit my love of potholes isn't for everybody. If they offer a logical critique or an idea for improvement I have been known to change my mind. if all they say is you suck, then I mark em down as an idiot and let it roll off my back. Shoot what interests you, what you are passionate about. its your passion that will turn a snapshot into an interesting photo.

I agree. It's nice for people to like what I do, but my being happy with it is more important.

This is so true for myself - & how could you living where you do not know how much deverisatality there is in photography - Modesto is the hub of California - well kinkda LMAO - but soooooooooooo much in any direction.

Perhaps an example of such a shot of yours would be instructive to the rest of us. It would be interesting to hear what you think makes the shot "edgey."

No,I don't think to photography is a dying art of the forum because it seems a best skill in this technical time. We all know the importance of photography for digitalization. And nowadays, there are best opportunity available to become a best photographer and earn some good money.

To many people go out and take a photo in 10 or 15 min.And go home just to spend the next 3 hour's photoshoping to get a photo that acceptable to everyone else. With out photoshop most of the people could not get a decient photo to display on u.h.h.

Some would argue that photography is not as much art, as a skill. If you consider all the retouching that goes into most photographs, the skill part is virtually non-existant. But the art of photo-shopping is alive, and quite well.

Digital has created more photographers ??, than there ever were in the days of film. I can't help but believe, if it were not for photoshop, and other like programs the number of would be's would decline.
