I see quite a few of these on Ebay with as few as 450 shots up to 12000. I understand they are a special use camera but why are so many are turned back into be resold?

Don't know - I have one and am keeping it. Probably because so many people thought it was the answer to make them a great photographer and it didn't.

I use it for wildlife (mostly birds) and use either a Canon 100-400L lens or a Tamron 150-600 lens.

I chose between this and the 5DmkIV for about the same price - the MKIV was faster in FPS and other features but seemed better for sports than wildlife. I don't need a burst of 10-20 frames for wildlife - they really don't move that fast. If I were doing more sports I would have gone for the MKIV.

50 mp full frame DSLR, it's anybody's guess why so many are for sale on Ebay.

Harry, I can tell you it’s a pretty amazing camera!
It produces an amazing amount of detail, especially from up close and with good light.
I don’t own the sr but do shoot with a 5s.
I only shoot with two cameras so they back each other up.
I shoot everything from landscape to fashion and also sports when I need two sports cameras.
The 5s has a very good focus module but has a pretty shallow buffer if you shoot on continuous. It also stays busy for too long to use for fireworks if you don’t turn off all the Auto processes and dial it back to about 30mp.
It’s an outstanding camera for everything from wildlife to landscape to sports if you’re not gonna shoot at more than 5 fps.
I bought mine used 2 years ago for $2750 with 2 years left on an extended warranty.
At a great price it’s a heck of a camera.
The 5lV is a better all-arounder but can’t come close to the detail if you want detail or crop deep. Good luck
SS

The very high mp count makes the camera sensitive to movement unless you are using high shutter speed. For most people the best results come from use with a tripod. Also the files are large and many people don't like having their hard drives filled up so fast. For most people it is best used as a studio camera with tripod and lights.
But it does turn in great images when used right and some can handhold it. For a prime example look at the bird posts from "Regis" here on the UHH. He is hand holding with a 400 mm lens plus 2x extender for a total of 800 mm. This is not an easy thing to do, it takes skill, being in good shape (esp arms, hands and shoulders) and very good technique combined with a lot of practice.

Totally agree.
They found out that it is not the camera but the photographer and how they use and understand the tool they are using. It can be the best tool made, the 5DSR, but they are still a crappy photographer.

I checked Ebay for 5Dsr body only - I see a few used ones and a lot of Gray Market models. Interestingly the used ones are selling for about what a brand new gray market model sells for. So some people are selling a used camera body for just what they paid for it....

Just bought used 5dsr (essentially unused) for 2000 with battery grip. People may have found that without great glass, good technique or understanding trade offs of 50 megapixel sensor with high pixel pitch their images weren’t worth the camera cost. It is also large and heavy. That being said the images from this camera are nothing short of amazing. These are big files that need strong processing power and storage. You will want to reshoot your portfolio. If you have a significant investment in canon L lenses and don’t want to switch to Nikon or Sony high megapixel camera this is a great option

I have a 5d Mark iv and 5Ds, the 5Dsr has an aligning filter that degrades the image a tiny amount, in fashion photography in may be more useful but I have not had a an issue yet with the 5Ds. My go to camera is the mark iv, they both weigh and look almost identical. For landscape, fashion, extreme detail the 5Ds or the 5Dsr are amazing. I did a large studio shoot where the client wanted to be able to see every stitch, the workmanship and fabric details. I shit identical images from my tripod with the 5Dmark IV and 5DS and the client only selected from the 5Ds. For speed the Markiv wins for detail the 5DS is amazing.

The 5Dsr image is sharper than the image taken with a 5Ds. The 5Dsr has Low-Pass filter cancellation. The filter on the 5Ds helps eliminate moire effects that would be found in some shoots like fashion shoots but does take away from available ultimate sharpness from this series of camera.
