Stacked beetle

My Canon 70d bit the dust. After a lot of trolling the internet I suspect the problem was making extensive stacks with it. It seems the micro processor in the 70d is vulnerable to overheating if many successive shots are made. It first gave me a 70 error code, then an 80, now it won't turn on at all. Repairs are expensive, and it might well still be vulnerable to this problem. So, I spent my tax refund on a new 6D mk II. About 10 years ago I found this beetle drowned in my dog's water bowl. While I'd given up collecting, this was an interesting critter, already dead, and I still had the tools and skills so I mounted it. Casting about for something to try out my new stack rail and Canon on I hit on this. I found it tricky because it is so shiny which cast a lot of reflection highlights. A polarizing filter, and a sheet of white paper between the light source and the subject helped. Still working on an ID. I've gotten as far as scarab. It might be a burrowing dung beetle, or something else. Canon 6D mk II, Canon MPE 65, STackRail, 355, f5.6, 1.3 second exposures, ISO 400. Stacked with Helicon Focus, and tweaked with Photoshop Elements 13. As always it has been downsampled to reduce bandwidth. I really like the eyelashes and the eyes.

It is a nice stack! Can't find a decent ID on the beetle, though it should be a dung beetle.

A fine looking specimen. Curious, which method did you use in Helicon?

I tried all three, but settled on "B" as offering a slightly better rendition of the eye shading.

I am no expert, but several photos on line show Odonteus with horn on male. Female lacks horn.
