I will be shooting a aerial video of a 25 mile long by 100 feet wide patch of undeveloped forest land. I was wondering if anyone knew the formula to calculated the altitude I would need to fly at to only capture the 100 foot wide path? I'm using a 94 degree FOV camera with a 20 mm prime lens. I hope this is enough info to calculate. TIA.

That's what I came up with also based on the 94 degree FOV.

I wonder....how far away from the plot of land do you need to be to capture all 100 feet??

In what direction?
Vertically, about 47 feet.

A 20 mm lens has a field of view of 84º, not 94º. My trig works out to 55.53 feet...How tall are those trees?

(Hopefully the trees are not in the 100' wide path.)

You may have a greater problem. First you need to program the flight path because at about 3 miles out, you'll lose contact (and control). In sport mode at maximum speed of 44 mph, your battery will be drained at 21.5 miles, with 28 minutes flight time. Then I assume you want it to return? Enjoy the hike.

Thanks spaceylb. Would you share the formula so if I change the camera I can figure it out?

How do you get to 84 degrees? The mfg specs say its a 94 degree FOV. Its a Phantom 4.

IFGA: Image size/ focal length= ground area/ altitude.

I just did the trigonometry on the data. The height would be 46.6 feet.
