Sunrise at the Pier

Shot this Sunday morning with a photo group at Ft De Soto Park near Tampa, Florida. I was hoping the pier added some foreground interest and depth to the photo.

Is there a more active place to get critique on landscape photos?

Thanks

There are two that you might be interested in. Photo Critique Section and For Your Consideration. Both section will do their best for honest opinion, but the one labeled "critique" will make sure you know "the good, the bad, and the ugly" (both positive and negative comments).

Oops! I forgot to say I really like your shot. The pier adds tremendously to your shot in my opinion. It gives it a sense of place along with that terrific sunrise.

Thanks a lot. Found a long time ago a landscape needs depth and foreground interest.

I honestly think the pier is the basis of this photo. The lighting is nice, but without the pier it would be sort of empty, I think. I was debating where or not I liked the inclusion of the distant bridge. At first it seemed intrusive, but when imagining the image without it, I found that it really does add to the image. Gives it more depth. And the repetition of the vertical lines is nice, too.

Thanks for the feedback.

Very good shot. I Really like it. The pier is essential. It leads the eye from the dark lower right up into the brighter sky on left.
Since we generally ‘read’ left to right...would you consider flipping the photo? Sometimes it feels ‘right’ to do that with an animal that is moving across a scene the ‘wrong’ way. Just an idea.

I'll try flipping it to see if I notice a difference. Thanks

Hi, Brett,
The download is, hands down, the image to evaluate...your control of tonal values is far better seen there.
I love the image and composition, with the contribution of pier and that magnificent bridge to the collective perspective of the image.

My only suggestion is to give a try at lifting a touch more detail from the darks of the pier.

Otherwise, a beautiful job with good impact!

Dave

Thanks Dave. I toyed with the idea of more pier detail. The pier really isn't the best looking in the world.
