I just had my nikon 28x70 2.8 lens repaired and when I tried to auto-focus with it on my camera, it would not fire. I got an EE eror message and my lights on my lcd screen kept blinking even when I was just looking at it. The only function that worked was manual. Glad I use it most of the time but I am concerned with my auto-focus and my shutter. When I put it on Shutter priority, it would not fire and it does not fire my flash either. I am looking for some idea as to what is happening before I put it in the shop for repair. Can someone please help me out? I have had my D700 for a couple of years and never had a problem like this.

EE or "FEE"?
FEE means you have not locked your lens' aperture ring at maximum aperture, which needs to be done to use that lens on that body.

I checked and it was locked That was the first thing I did. I also noticed that when I reloaded the lens that the error message would disappear for a few shots and then return.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and inside the body using a Q-tip and a bit of rubbing alcohol. You clearly have a communication problem between the camera and lens. Do other lenses work OK? If so I would be in contact with whoever just repaired this lens as it may have been reassembled improperly.

I just tried to do as you requested and it seems to be working now. I unlocked and relocked the lens. I moved the swth on my camera to the L for lock and it is functioning better now,. The error message has not returned yet. Thanks for your help. I appreciate the professional help here on ugly hedgehog. You are all fantastic.

I also cleaned the contacts on the lens and the camera. So far so good. If it reoccurs, I will repost a message about when and how.

Took camera back to repair and the auto focus on the camera needed to be replaced. It is stranged that the camera would not duplicate what I described to the technician so I told them to check it out anyway until it did so.
