Hello. I have been reading the forum for over a year and find it to be very informative. Its nice to see the responses from those who are knowledgeable, experienced and enjoy photography as much as I do. I have a Canon 6D full frame and looking for a wide angle lens. I would like to go as wide as possible short of a Fisheye but some distortion around the edges is acceptable but want no vignetting. A short zoom is ok as well. I would like to keep price under $1500,00 but sharpness is important. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

How about either the 16-35 f2.8L or the 16-35 f4L, depending on which fits your budget. I also have good results with my 17-40 f4L on FF, which is the oldest design and least expensive of the three. If you believe in DXOMark’s tests, all three are similar in sharpness and aberration.

Then there are the primes...

For wide angle I use the aforementioned EF 16-35 f/2.8L.

The Canon 16-35 f/4 is a fantastic wide angle zoom and well within your budget. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1051475-USA/canon_9518b002_ef_16_35mm_f_4l_is.html Not sure how you feel about Ken Rockwell (some people hate him, others like him) but here is his review of it. https://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/16-35mm-is.htm

Might want to consider the new Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 Art lens for just under $1,000.

Vignetting is very easy to fix in post processing, either manually or with a lens profile. You are not likely to find a very wide angle lens that has even illumination across the field.

One of the sharpest lenses in the ultra wide category for full frame cameras comes from a very unlikely source - Korea - the Samyang/Bower/Rokinon 14mm f2.8. It's very sharp corner to corner, almost no chromatic aberration or coma, and it is under $400. It is full manual. The flaw that it has is some pretty substantial complex, or moustache distortion, and 3 EV dropoff in illumination into the corners.

I have a friend that uses it on a 5D MK III and I am blown away by the sharpness.

If you go down this route, here is a suggestion for a good lens profile for it.

There are others. I have no experience with them.

Keep in mind, that while you can easily correct for chromatic aberration, barrel/moustache distortion and vignetting with a profile, you cannot fix a lens that is not sharp. This is as sharp as it gets.

You can always get the $2100 Canon 14mm F2.8 - it will less barrel distortion, 1/2 stop less vignetting, it would be as sharp across the field, and it will put a $1700 bigger hole in your wallet.

Your money, your choice. I'd go with the Korean lens.

If sharpness is the criteria you desire the EF 11-24mm f/4 USM is the Canon lens you want.

I think the "no-vignetting" requirement drives the lens candidate count to zero.
