I am considering the purchase of a Datacolor Spydercube for white and color balance of my RAW photos. If you have actually used this product, would you please share your opinions on its effectiveness and ease of use. Also, how does the Spydercube compare to more traditional ways of adjusting white and color balance such as white cards, 18% grey cards and color patches such as the Datacolor Spydercheckr. Thank you.

I have it.

The only interest is the 'black hole' to set a true black (absence of light vs light absorption that always has a reflection).

Final use? Another useless gizmo - Especially if you shoot raw -.

Although I do not own the specific item in question I do own a colorchecker which I use quite a bit. I ONLY shoot raw and I find it extremely helpful to have a color reference when editing. I don't believe its always needed, but when it is, it's a godsend. Best of luck.

I think you confusing setting your WB in camera with color correcting/calibrating a monitor for which the Datacolor Spyder is used!

I don't believe this has anything to do with setting the either the WB in camera or calibrating your monitor. This device is designed for critical color correction of RAW (and other) files. Best of luck.

The Spydercube has nothing to do with white or color balance in the camera or monitor calibration. The Spydercube is for providing a reference for adjusting color balance in Lightroom and Photoshop. I have a Spyder Pro+ for calibrating my monitor.

What I really want is comments from photographers who have actually used a Spydercube.
