When I am shopping for lenses for my Nikon 7200 DSLR, how can I tell if it is a "kit lens" plastic or a nice metal lens with glass for lenses? I have a 10-20 sigma and a nice Nikon 55-300 that i really like. i would like to have something between these two. What do you think of this lens (factory refurbished)--- Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-P DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Factory Refurbished with 3 UV/CPL/ND8 Filters + Hood + Kit?

Nikon 18-200 VRII. You can get a great price used. This lens will outshine by far the 18-55.

I am not sure that the afp version with VR is fully functional with the D7200. You need a firmware update, and may not be able to turn off vr.

I have the Nikon 18-55 on my D3300 most of the time. It is an excellent walk-around lens and it is lightweight, sharp and gets excellent reviews. A real bargain for the price.

Maybe not needed, but still advisable for the protection of the front element. However, don't scrimp on the price. Purchase a high-quality filter, such as B+W.

That’s a kit lens and you don’t need a UV filter with a DSLR. Not a bad lens. Came as the kit lens with my old D5000 in 2010.

A 35mmf1.8 will fit nicely!

I could not agree more! I love that lens, and it is an incredible value for the money. By the way, kit lens does not necessarily equate to bad lens. Some are perfectly fine as long as they are not getting banged around, others not so much.

I have had a Nikkor 18-105 mm, 3.5-5.6G ED VR on my D7000 for a few years and I hardly ever use any other lens. Reported test results are excellent and my experience has been great. I highly recommend it. It is black - I don't know if it is metal or plastic and I don't care.

I agree with the 18-140. I have two of them and will sell the newer one that was a gift from my brother. Took less then 40 photos with it. If you are interested, I can offer you a good price. Email me at Linelink@hotmail.com.

DXOMark website has a list of tested lenses that they feel are best for your 7200. Mostly Sigma (especially) and Nikon
