Hello all,
I have a Canon Canoscan 8400F which I am considering using to scan a considerable number of negatives (both color and B&W) and slides, primarily. Looking at the Canon website, there are no drivers available for WIN 10, and, looking at the Vuescan website, I can't use their software without first installing a driver.
I've seen much discussion of the 9000F, but not the 8400F, on UHH. Is it worth the trouble to try getting this dinosaur working? The other option I have considered is photographing the slides and negs on either my Canon 7D or my Olympus EM-10 mkII.
Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.
Howard
Have you tried it with Win 10? It may just work with the Win 10 included drivers. Vuescan does not list any Win 10 specific drivers. Their supported scanners page seems to suggest that the x64 drivers for Win 7 work in Win 10.

Use your E-M1 Mk II. macro lens, bellows and light source. I totally gave up on any scanner system, except drum scans, years ago. BIGGEST PITA since dating in high school.
Use the hi RES 80 Mb, with a MACRO lens and light source behind slide. That's what I use on my OM-D E-M5 MkII 50 Mb Hi Res mode. Since hi res sensor shift works best in a static situation, the hi res mode is perfect for photographing slides.
You might try silverfast they may have something to run your scanner.

Wondering about this myself, same project, lots of negatives, slides and prints, my son has a Canon scanner he cannot get a driver for, I was considering hooking it up to my old computer and trying the Win7 driver, also a bit of research, Canon has a refurbish Canoscan 9000 @ 119.00on their site, thinking about it, Bob.

Up until my bulb burned out mine was working fine in Win 10 Pro. I also use it with vuescan. I really need to find and buy a new bulb, as of now I can scan transparencies and negatives, but not photos or documents. Have to go to the other room and use my wife's all-in-one for documents or photos.
I use Vuescan with my Minolta Dimage Multi Pro, for which Sony has not produced software for years. Works great.
