Does anyone have any recommendations for a negative/slide and/or photo scanner that might be able to produce an image that could produce, say, a decent 11x14 print?

Are you talking about 35mm film or larger?
For 35mm film is a print made from a 35mm negative or slide look decent to you?

Easy, Epson.

They make a considerable line of scanners. Simply pick the one that does what you want.

I have to agree, the Epson V 850 pro is a very nice scanner (if you like flatbed scanners), but for better yet quality, get a dedicated film scanner!

I have an Epson V-800 and it works just fine. Either of the 800 series will be a good choice.

I use the Epson V600. I bought it when first introduced for about $500. Now, you can get a new one for about $210. Recommended.

what size film? If 120 or larger film, epson 750 or Epson 4780 using AZTEK wet scanning process at maximum DPI will give you an outstanding image, similar to a drum scan. File will be HUGE though, but you can deal with that in post.

For 35mm film the above scanners can do a decent job, but a dedicated film scanner will work better. An old Minolta Dimage Pro or a Nikon Cool Scan.

For 35mm I used the Konica Minolta Dimage Dual Scan IV and it works great. The problem is that it's no longer available and used one tend to fetch more than what I paid for it new of $250. Also I am not very happy with 11x14 prints from 35mm negative or slide whether printing optically or scanned.

Or find a (used) Nikon CoolScan, for many less $$$'s...
