The way it's presented and the tone and questions asked of the police officer, I think this was staged. But then again, that's just me.

"Anti social photography" Now that's a new one. I've been taking pictures around our town, but before I started, I went to the town hall to tell them what I was doing, just to be on the safe side. I'll have to avoid being anti social.

I could try, but it wouldn't be worth the effort. :D
this is one reason that prevents me from shooting street here in England.........the biggest floating prison in the world.
It is encouraging to see there are still some brave souls who resist tyranny without violence. Thugs wear uniforms too, in fact, seem to gravitate to the badeged job now that the militarization of the police has progressed to the point of no return.

Whoops! I guess you're no longer "in hiding." :D
I think you'll find the same situation everywhere you go. There have been lengthy discussions here about just that sort of thing in the U. S.
On the surface, it doesn't seem like a big deal. Just tell them who you are, where you live, when you were born, your email address, and your phone number. Give them you social security number (in the U. S.) and show them your driver's license. (Did I leave anything out?) Then they have to go and check up on you, and someone makes a typo, or there's someone with the same/similar name, and you're labeled a terrorist, or they find you have a record for molesting children, or you're simply put into a database of people who behave in an anti-social manner. If you're innocent you have nothing to fear, right? Well, not quite.
On the other hand, imagine that you're a cop, and you know for a fact that terrorists are trying to attack your country. How do you draw the line between a harmless citizen taking pictures and a potential terrorist doing research, especially with thousands of people streaming into the country for the Olympics?
This is a no-win situation for everyone.
i agree it is a no-win and the sad fact is, it will never be reversed.
