I don't know how you can hand hold that one and get images as nice as these. Good job!

Thank you, Vicki. Getting the shots were no easy feat. I had to climb over a lounge chair and brace the end of the lens against the window, while trying to hold it up! It was certainly not pretty, and I managed 3 decent shots out of
about 30.

Would help if I uploaded the pictures... In any case, this is from the mistake post:

I got these shots through my family room window hand holding 600mm lens (ouch). I don't know how some of you do that routinely! I didn't dare go out, as I was afraid it would leave. I think this is a dove, but I am not sure? I assume one of you can help me with that and I think I need a book. Thanks for looking.

They take great skill in shooting them and they make great table fare as they are mostly breast.

I see, well I think I'll pass on that. I'd rather shoot them with the camera

Thanks or the ID. I just ordered the National geographic guide to North American birds. I thin I'll just leave it in the car.

It is also available in a field guide version, aimed at that purpose.

Re field guides, my favorites are the Audubon ones. No drawings, all photographs.

Fran, excellent shots of the Morning Dove. By taking my time, I was able to walk up to within 10-12 ft from some, to get their photograph, even with my three yr old German Shepherd with me on a leash. There are many that don't cooperate.
