This is my first attempt at Silhouette photography. This young couple had just got married and were taking an early morning walk on the beach. My wife and I were there for our 25th anniversary. This was done 2 years ago I am just now brave enough to post it. not much editing done on this photo the colors that morning were amazing and the chance to try Silhouette photography was just there. For those uhh members who are more adverse at Silhouette photography please let me know what you think. Be easy I am sensitive (not

Lovely colors and composition Al.
I love this! If it were my shot, I might crop in just a bit off the left side. But that is a personal preference. Beautifully done!
Beautiful sky color, nice separation between the two people. I think that's a key to successful silhouettes: clearly defined shapes. Very appealing here.
One simple fix you might want to do if you plan to print and hang on your wall is to straighten your horizon line. It currently slopes noticeably downhill from left to right. I wouldn't want you to be constantly trying to straighten the frame
Something else I noticed, but if it doesn't bother you, just ignore me. The areas of the sky showing between the railings are noticeably lighter than the rest. The lights on the pier aren't on, so it sort of appears as if you did a selection of the sky to darken and saturate, but left out that part.
Looking closely (zoomed in) here online I see a couple of noticeable sensor dust spots, so if you plan to print, maybe do a small version first to see how much they show up.
Overall, except for the horizon line, my first impression is "Very pretty!"
Very nice start. This is a silhouette shot but it is also very noisy, you won't suffer loss of detail by using some noise software on it, I use Topaz DE Noise. It shouldn't take a lot but would make a world of difference. I would like to see this shot after it's been "De Noised".
Couple things...first the good
1) gorgeous colors
2) pier line on the right...nice
3) overall framing (i like the horizon roughly at the 1/3rd...on the rhs anyway)
Opportunities
1) horizon (already noted by linda) keep at 1/3rd
2) crop the left ...put the people off center
3) wait for a better "pose" from the couple
4) de-noise it
Q: what settings and what equipment. Just curious as there may be some tips drom others to help with better IQ.
Overall....my first reaction always tells the tale.
I love this pic!

Here is an example to illustrate the ideas (and a critique on some things to avoid.
Silhoette is up against the brightest part of the pic...draws your eye. Pose is somewhat natural.
Horizon is at 50% in this case. Allows for some left to right foreground tidewater line dropoff.
Enough exposure to see the sand (vs totally black) and also allows for a slight shadow. Persons head is cut through by the horizon...missed that one...
Some of these are a matter of taste but will give you some ideas to try (or reject :-)
Silohettes are very subjective. Try different exposures and focal distances (ie everything sharp or just the subject? )
Post some more when you get a chance!

Very nice, love the colors
Nothing wrong with that. I love doing silhouettes. Maybe I'll post some.
Really beautiful, Al! Our son works in Virginia Beach!
