When I'm typing I make that mistake all the time.
To answer the original question I would say the best all around macro lens available from Nikon is their Nikon AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G lens. It's been around a long time and is a has a great reputation.
Thank you and enjoy your weekend good shooting
The Tokina 100mm is relatively inexpensive and has great reviews. I love mine. Bought it from B&H and it came early and as advertised.
Are there still distinctions between what are now commonly called "macro" lenses and "flat field macro" lenses? The latter was more for document and art reproduction,as I recall, but there were some 35mm lenses with that claim.
I know this is late, but I also concur....the Tokina 100mm is an excellent value...This was my first lens after the kit lenses. I am totally happy with it.
Thank you all
I have already checked out this lens yes it will be my next lens
I have the Sigma 150mm os on my D7200 for more reach and love it. bigger, heavier, and more expensive but well worth it.

Most importantly, get a Canon. Then get the 100mm macro. Great lens better camera!

Barry it depends. I have two Nikon Micro Nikons..a 105 and a 200. If I am during dragon's or bugs, I use the 200 to give me some distance. I love my 105 for flowers.

I have a Sigma 180mm f2.8 OS macro. I bought mine as a mint condition, second hand copy. It cost £400 less than a brand new lens. It is heavy but it is also very good and provides a very useful stand - off from insects and bum - piercing thistles and brambles.
