Canon Nifty Fifty Question

I recently learned that using this cheaper 50mm f/1.8 lens (Version II) will often provide a circular rainbow effect when shooting into the sun.

For those in-the-know, is this unique to the Version II model only, or is this also true of the newer STM version? I hate buying an outdated version of a lens, but if only the Version II does this, especially considering the price, I have no problem doing so.

Thx in advance!

I'm not sure if this is an effect for all 50mm canon lens. I am also buying one this week but after reading different reviews I decided to go with the stm version since it was on about 25 dollars more on KEH photo. ive ordered used lens before and even though they say excellent shape they have all come in almost new condition and have been very happy with their customer service. for the money you can buy both for the price of a new.

Have not experienced this in any fashion with the STM. It's a ok lens (so-so), like the 40mm/2.8 better!

I don't know about that lens, but shooting into the sun can cause all kinds of strange effects.
