If a person has a slew of Pentax lenses, is there an adapter that will enable said person to use them on a Nikon or a Canon? ?

Yes :-D
Go to eBay and search: adapter for pentax lens (nikon)(canon)
Use Google and do the same search
Don't expect to be able to use them in any way other than full manual though. ...and not a stupid question at all.

You need to set your camera to shoot w/o a lens.
Look for an adapter which has an iris so that you can control the aperture unless your Pentax lenses have manually controlled apertures. If you don't get an adapter with an iris you have to shoot wide open.
You can shoot either in manual or aperture priority. In Av your get auto exposure.
Regarding focus you are probably limited to full manual although some other brand lens adapters come chipped so you get focus confirmation.
Don't know if those are avaiable for Pentax lenses or, if so, they are also available with an iris. Given the choice the iris is more important.
Getting a split prism focusing screen would help with going full manual.
BTW..not a stupid question at all.
Hi, That isn't even close to a stupid question. If I could remember what it was I asked about I could prove it. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

The only stupid question is the one that never gets asked. I found a Pentax to Nikon adaptor on Amazon for £39.95: I haven't bought it yet, but it's on my wish list. Sadly, it's impossible to get a Nikon lens to Pentax body adapter as far as I know.

A great question!
I also have a lot of Pentax lenses from years ago and have never seriously considered using them on my DSLRs until now.
Thanks to the reply by Robert_Photos (see above), I am off to try using them on my Canon SLR.
Thanks for asking Annie!
Why not buy a new Pentax body???

Would modern human life be possible without adaptors?
