Loved Working With Strippers

After I got out of the Army, I started shooting photography as a part-time business. Next to the camera store that I purchased my film supplies, etc. was a strip club. A few times one of the strippers would stop in to see if they knew someone who could take photos for her portfolio. Knowing I was just starting out and could use any business, they would recommend me. But the reason strippers were good models is you didn't have to do the "dance" with them - "I'm seeing you naked as a 22 yr old guy" thing. They didn't care, was use to showing their body, and we could get right down to taking the type of photos they wanted.

I took a full set of color in my basement studio (which I don't have copies) around 1969-70, then we moved out to my back yard. I developed and printed them with the cheap equipment in my darkroom. (Wished I would have dodged in the burned out areas but I obviously didn't) So I remember after the first shot I mentioned her nipple was somewhat flat. She just grabbed it, started tweaking it, and said something like "is this better". I loved working with strippers.

Normally would not show the poor 3rd shot, but I was trying to concentrate on setting the f-stop to get the background out of focus, reading my meter, etc. and she was standing there with her shirt wide open. She covered for the shot but I forgot to focus on her. Apparently I wasn't as professional as I thought I was! :-)

OMG you led a charmed life. What heterosexual guy wouldn’t love that scenario? As far as the focus on #3, you can be forgiven as you were no doubt distracted, and maybe it was camera shake. Lol.

LOL... in some ways I guess I was somewhat "charmed" when it came to models because I never paid a cent for one, often got paid. Here is an idea for some of you that have inquired where to find models willing to pose nude/semi-nude? From 1968-1977 I shot in the range of 300 weddings and guess who is in the wedding party or attending as a friend of the bride - single, good-looking, young women. So there was always a point during the shoot when I had 2-3 shots left on the roll but needed to change to have a fresh roll for the next item coming up. So I would just ask the best looking one if she wanted a few photos of herself... take her aside to pose her and because I was the wedding photographer they would often be willing to hike her dress up a little, sit with some leg showing, etc. Would get her address so I could mail them directly to her - "I want you to have these just for you, not go thru the bride to get to you" - and would include my card with a note that I would love to shoot her sometime for free - photos for her time. One or more out of ten would respond positively by contacting me. Always started shooting fully dressed to make them comfortable, then we proceeded from there. Stayed 100% professional but that is how many of my glamour sets came to be.

At 82, I can look back at how the attitude of women has changed... for the better... they all have a bit of "Stripper" in them that is now allowed and expected by fashion to come out. Oh loved the mini skirts...

Rab-Eye, reason I haven't been including the Download for all of you is these are prints the 1970ish film days and I am just scanning them on a cheap flat-bed scanner, so the only EXIF data would be the dpi, etc from the scanner. Plus, not taking the time to PP these old prints so if you zoom in you are going to see the dust particles, scratches, etc. from being stored in a box or album. As an example, here is this posting in an album I had to show my Glamour work samples at that time.

dpullum, at 71 I too can look back. Not sure just attitude of women but natural evolution of society in general in the USA. And, yes in my opinion, the mini-skirt was when women were liberating themselves during the sexual revolution, but still trying to hold on to the morals of their parent's teachings. Funny how far we have come that women now try to dress like men, and I catch myself stopping and staring when I see a pretty woman in an actual DRESS! So, just for you, here was a young lady at a wedding reception that I just grabbed two shots (we stepped to pool and this is on the diving board) before I changed film to shoot the cutting of the cake. Scanned directly from the album insert. Never heard from her again. :-(

I love the old school photos of the old school models. Reminds me of the men's magazine collection in my grandfather's basement I found back in the 70's.

The lower right shot is definitely PG-rated (probably G by today's standards) but wonderfully suggestive.

I no longer remember if I suggested the poses or she just did them naturally. I do know I wished I could have gotten her in my studio for some controlled lighting ones vs just camera-mounted flash but she never responded to invite.
