I really like my D850. I think it is the best camera on the market today. That being said…I use the D500, D810, D750 in conjunction with the D850. I feel like my images are equally good with any camera I use. I think the glass plays a bigger role for me. If you are proficient with how you shoot…frankly, the camera doesn't matter much. It boils down to what you "want" rather than what you "need".

Yes and I love this camera. I have posted one image in Gallery (Bay Bridge Walkwy).
Someday I wil get Snap Bridge to work properly...

Oh no you won't. I've said this around here before, my D850 has been on Airplane mode since I took it out of the box.

Excellent series... and as much as the camera is incredible, it takes far more than just a good body and glass to produce those.

But seeing 47MP images downsized and compressed to post here won't show you anything much different than my 10 year-old D3.
To appreciate what you get from the Nikon D810 or D850 you need to see actual 16x20, 20x30, 30-x40 or larger prints. I tiny web image here does not tell you squat.

Probably fair to say I love it more than I hoped. However, even though it's reasonably priced for what you get, you won't be happy unless you have high quality FX lenses. I bought a 24-70mm, f/2.8, 70-200mm, f/2.8 and a 200-500mm, f/5.6 before I was really happy with what this camera can do.

It's unfortunately true that the real magic that is in the 46+mp images is lost when posting. Although many of the post-processed images look great, it's a thrill seeing the ability of the D850 to produce great pix s.o.o.c.!
None of these would be "showpieces". I'm just posting some random examples of recent "SnapShots". Nothing set up...just shooting on the fly. All that's been done to them is cropping (and of course reducing the size...which reduces the true goodness of their flavor....oh, well....here we go again). All were taken with whatever natural lighting was available. One of the aspects of the D850 I really appreciate is that I can capture really nice images in light that, prior to this camera, would have required a flash or bumping up the iso to a level that produced visible noise. The gray cat was almost invisible to the eye (I should mention here that this camera will almost focus in the dark!)...and the Great Blue Heron feeding her chick was shot into a background that hurt the eyes to even look at. I had to spot meter on the darker foliage. This thing can handle a ton of dynamic range. The WACO biplane was a real challenge as we were both in rather heavy turbulence, and I was shooting at a relatively slow exposure so that I could catch the blur of the propellor...not 'freeze it', to give it a sense of motion. I credit the camera's "feel", in-hand to allowing me to shoot at a split-second of stillness.
I have a lot to learn. About both the camera and taking and processing truly good images. If I don't get them, it's not the camera's fault!

My Answer to the title of the post is: no
But I do have several other Nikon cameras that I love like quite a lot. They are good DSLRs/SLRs. But we all know the future is mirrorless and we have yet to see Nikon’s offering in that category. Just saying.

I have one and like almost everything about it except for several exceptions.
The shutter is extremely loud even in the quite modes. I prefer the shutter sound of the D500. Yes there is a complete silent mode but it is in live view only, which is my second issue.
Auto focus is so slow in live view its only useful for stationary subjects.
Third is the noise. Although images are much cleaner than my D500, its a step backward form the D810 and D800E (had both).
Not deal breakers...with all the prerelease hype I expected better; still its the best camera I have owned.
I don't do video and have never tried it so I can't comment.
