Pop Photo article from 2012 on this lens... btw it doesn't appear on Nikon's site in the archive section I guess it was specially ordered/made? I searched ebay didn't see any on sale :0

This lens came out in the pre-digital age - just think on a D500 it would have FOV of an 1800-2550mm lens... add a 2x TC for 3600-5100mm FOV - holy refraction Batman!

That’s why I never bought one. I won’t pay more than $59,000 for a lens. 🤔

Here's a link to one of the Nikon reference site. Lots of basic specs.

If you could. I think a 1.4 version would require its own wheels.

This is, in fact, the proper way to carry the Nikkor 1200-1700mm f/5.6-8.0 super telephoto lens. Weighing in at 36 pounds and measuring nearly 3 feet in length, the manual focus lens was introduced in 1993 and had a hefty price tag of $60,000.

This is why Micro 4/3 was invented... A 600 to 850mm doesn't exist for m43 yet, but if it did, it would be one fourth the size and weight of that sucker! And it sure as HELL wouldn't cost 60 grand.

That is a major piece of photographic artillery!!! The tripod sturdy enough to hold that would be a major piece of equipment in itself. WOW!
