Defective card?
The second photo isn't a defective shutter. If it were, the bottom would be completely black and the line between the two areas would be slightly blurry. This is a recording error. It could be a bad card or it could be that the camera computer didn't boot up properly or there's a problem in the writing routine. The first photo looks like a writing error. The bottom half of the image appears to be rolled over 1/4 of the frame.

some of these photos look ok when you view them in File Explorer, but, when I bring up the individual photo in Elements, then the error appears ? It was a brand new XQD card; I do have another, swo, I will try that when I
go to Phoenix in about a week; thanks

Duh, why do you need to go to Phoenix to use your camera?

Why would you purchase a D500 and A Tamron lens?

Did you think about doing a "Complete" reset? Really could be something simple!

Try shooting with a different lens for a while. If it still does that, send it in to Nikon.

I had a similar issue when my lens wasn't locked down properly on the camera. Be sure things are clicked together. Maybe clean the contact points a bit?
