I also have a D90.I leave mine on auto and forget it.

I too own a D90 and leave WB on auto. In some difficult lighting it won't render correctly. I shoot RAW so in those cases it allows me to adjust it in PP pretty easily.

I normally leave mine on cloudy. Then adjust as I see fit.

Just push and hold the WB button on the camera back and turn the command dial to get the icon you want to appear in the top LCD screen.
