I recently read that when life gets discouraging or challenging, it helps to think of a happy time & place and retreat there for a while. I have taken that a step farther and created a photo folder called "Escape." It is a constantly changing collection of beautiful landscapes, happy children, pets, wildlife, etc., who will continue to be beautiful and/or happy regardless of how my petty problems are resolved. I go there often and review what I have saved. Some of the photos are from UHH members. I hope you're OK with that. They go on my tablet and stay for a short time before I delete them and find some others to enjoy. If this is overstepping what you would like done with your pics, send me a PM and I'll be sure to not use your work. Otherwise, thanks for making my problems go away -- even for a little while.

You are very considerate. Speaking only for myself now, I think the main reason that I take photographs is in the hope that they might be useful to others in just the way that you describe here.

I don't post anything online that I don't assume someone will use. As long as you aren't printing it, or claiming it as your own work, I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. Considering I mainly do weddings and portraits, I can't imagine how that would help you, but.....whatever helps.

I totally agree. I share my photos just because I feel that people will spread the word. I'm not trying to make money from it so it's nice to have people enjoy your photographs.

A friend of mine, who shoots weddings, almost exclusively, has one photo taken during the reception that would be guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face. In all the weddings he's worked, only one of those photos, but priceless none the less. So, weddings and portraits, especially weddings, can raise someone's spirits.

They make me smile. It's actually one of the biggest joys in my life, and can't believe I get paid to do it sometimes. I often think I should pay them for how good it makes me feel to share in the joy. That's why I can never understand those that jump on the "I would never shoot a wedding" bandwagon.

I have done the same thing with my desktop (use with screensaver) a few years ago. I have 2 dogs, love airplanes, fast cars, I am an EMT, and have 2 grandchildren. All these plus nice landscapes are used for this purpose also, and some old old photos of family members. It helps lift the spirit. Feel free to use mine if you wish.

I think it would be nice to PM the photographers whose images you use; simply as a courtesy.

Anything that is posted on the internet can and could used by just about anybody.
You probably don’t have any of mine but your welcome to them
I find it a little sad that anybody would need such an album, but enjoy it and use it if you need it!!!

I post my images with this very use in mind.

During the early months of this year, I often had my tablet with me when I visited my elderly mother, and I would show her a few of these images. On March 6th, she was very weak, but quietly said a distinct "cute" when I showed her one.

I never heard another clear, meaningful word from her before she died on the 10th. Even images that aren't great art can have value like this.
