Canon 5DSR with Tamron 150-600 @ 350mm f10 @ 1/400 ISO400 - Harris Neck NWR, Georgia - I lived in Texas for four years and I never saw one of these right side up!
Shellback
Loc: North of Cheyenne Bottoms Wetlands - Kansas
We have one that recently arrived - Reading up on them - they are migrating north - if the avg temp is 26 or warmer in Jan and avg annual rainfall is 15" - they can live there...
They are bug eaters and dig up anything and everything to find the bugs -
So far it has torn up the chicken house floor - tearing out concrete patches - burrowing under the foundation - tearing up the yard - destroyed a feeder -
When I find it - it will be a problem no more...

I never heard that either but I'm from out west.
Cattle don’t like the holes they dig.

Texas A&M did a life cycle study on these critters. After spending several million dollars and three years, they determined that armadillos are born dead on the road.
They are a very unique looking animal...wonderful capture.
