The war of the viewfinders may be coming to an end. Interesting article on DP Review. Some quotes: -

"This year we sat down with leaders from (in alphabetical order) Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sigma, Sony and Tamron to learn more about how they see the market, and to get an indication of what might be coming down the road.

Full-frame mirrorless will become the norm, and it will happen pretty soon

This year, almost all the executives we spoke to seemed to agree on one thing: full-frame mirrorless will become the norm, and it will happen pretty soon.

..... One is the mirrorless market: new, energetic, and increasingly packed with advanced autofocus systems and high-end video features. And the other is the DSLR market, dominated by increasingly non-essential iterative updates at the low-end..... "

Nikon seems to be conspicuous by its absence.

Amen!

I was too lazy to write what you wrote. Honestly, who cares. If people focused on taking creatively better photos as much as they focus on gear, we would see a lot less snapshots.

Yes, wars coming to an end is a good thing!
There was a time we all thought film would last forever but it died a quick death.
Yes, there are a few film curmudgeons still kicking but it’s mostly spasms, they’ll be dead soon too.
I’m looking forward to when mirrorless is BETTER, not just the same. I hope it uses the same lenses!!!
In two weeks I go to shoot my favorite event of the entire year, the Sea Otter Classic. There will be 300 pros there shooting, maybe 1/2 the cameras will be mirrorless, you think??? I’ll report back.
Last year I didn’t see any mirrorless among the pros in 4 days but I did see a couple Nikons!!!

Nonsense. You obviously have never used a Fuji, because the evf is the best thing about it.

Absolutely right , the new EVFs are superior to using any Optical Viewfinder and one of the main reasons I switched after 40 years with DSLRs. The EVF is one of the main reasons I would never go back to any DSLR. Got to run out on another professional assignment with my mirrorless gear. Catch up to you all in this lively discussion later, Cheers

Yes!......remember Y2K when the world came to a sudden end !!!???

Do I remember Y2K... We spent the best part of two years finding and fixing all the 6 digit dates to 8 digit dates in the software. Ironically, it was in the 1980's that I began coding and I never once coded a 6 digit Gregorian date.
There was a group of us at work on the night 12/31/1999 having an informal party to celebrate the end of the nightmare. At exactly 00:00:01 GMT on 20000101 the bubbly was uncorked. The night crew and a few stragglers did it again when the first day of the last year of the twentieth century made it to EST.

Sorry, the reign of the DIGITAL DSLR is only beginning. Many, many, many, mirrorless owners are either switching back and buying the newest latest version DSLR. Sorry, you could not be more wrong. Women love the mirrorless cause it fits their hands better, but for big boys we like the DSLR, ESPECIALLY WHEN USING FAST LONG LENSES. Something mirrorless does not have. NOT ONE.

Ha Ha! I know so many people whose Nikons are gathering dust like mine are. The only people who are defending their clunky prism and mirror machines are those who have not yet used a mirrorless, or who need a 10 pound bazooka to shoot birds with.

Oh no, are my 5DIV, 5DSr, 80D, 7DII, 6D, D500 and D7200 going to suddenly stop working?!

Yes, I'm sorry, but those have all been declared ((('OUTDATED TECHNOLOGY')))

We also talked to Zuckerburg and Bezos and they will have the NSA imediately send out a digital signal from all satelites to shut down all non-mirrorless models....but don't worry, they'll backup all your photo files first.

Of course you won't actually have access to those files yourself; they'll be government property.....

Tony is correct more often than not but he's also somewhat opinionated and maybe a bit narrow minded. I enjoy their videos and own some of their books; heck, I even bought a lens from him, but, he is definitely not the last word for me on many things dealing with photography.

I think the game changer would be if a major DSLR manufacturer came out with a dedicated adapter allowing their DSLR lenses to work seamlessly on a mirrorless camera. The investment many of us amateurs have in glass can make changing bodies financially painful. Considering the 3rd party adapters that are available, Nikon or Canon should be able to come up with something better since it only has to work with their system. New buyers could buy the newly designed lenses while others could choose whether or not to migrate over or stand pat.

What about the EF to EF-M adapter Canon, and a few others, make.
