Sittin' in the back yard waiting for some hummers to find the nectar.
Love how you caught this beautiful bird. If the image were mine, I'd cut off the left side and leave just the metal thing holding the perch on the right. This way, our eye would concentrate on the bird and its beautifully displayed wings; we don't need to see the entire bird feeder. Also, it would make for a vertical picture, which, for me, would be more pleasing to the eye.

Beautiful photo! I agree that there is a case to be made for a vertical presentation, eliminating the left side metal thing. However, I like the balance as is.

thanks for the advise. A little later today I will do that crop and repost.

The action that you managed to capture is OK, but 1/500 sec is probably a bit slow for small birds.

I'm thinking that you wanted to have movement in this photo which is why you did not chose a very fast shutter speed. The problem is that our eyes move naturally to the sharpest, darkest, or brightest pars of a photo. That is, in this case, the feeder. Because it is so prominent and so sharp, I keep moving away from the bird which is your subject. I think there is just a bit too much motion blur in the wings and as a result the rest of the bird is also not sharp. On the other hand, I like the action of the bird landing on the perch. Just a bit fast of a shutter speed might have made a really big difference.
