GODOX Speed light and transmitter- Help needed

Greetings all, spring is just around the corner! I have an interest in studio lighting, I ordered the Godox 860 speed light with the XT-1 transmitter for my Sony A77m2. I spent four hours on Sunday trying to get the new gear up and running. I read and followed the directions countless times, went to You Tube to watch the video tutorials. I could not get the speed light and transmitter to communicate. Found the Godox customer service link ( Pergear) and went back and forth for a day. Frustrated, I returned the gear to Amazon. I understand there is a newer transmitter (XPRO) that is easier to program. Cut to the chase questions:

Does the wireless transmitter need to be tethered to the camera to activate the shutter? (Hot shoe mounted)

Does the transmitter have the ability to activate just the shutter remotely?

Any special aperture/shutter speed/ISO /flash settings to activate the flash? ( I normally shoot in manual mode).

I'm ok with the technical side of things. I am open to any information this leaned group can forward to me. I'm on a mission and determined to have the studio lighting working properly. Thanks for your time, much appreciated

The wireless transmitter has to be connected to the camera hot shoe.
It only controls the flash not the camera.
No special setting required.

I use the godox system. I have the 860ll and the xt1 and the S pro transmitters. They work flawlessly. The only thing you need to do is to make sure the channel is the same on the transmitter and the flash. (Ch. 1 - Ch. 32)The group will control the power of the flash. A, B, C, D from 1/128 -1/1. The channel is the key. They should pair up once they are both turned on. They will work even without being on the camera. Just hit the flash button on the transmitter to check to see if the flash works.
There are some videos on YouTube which help with trigger and flash set up. Check those out.

I have this same transmitter and flash on my Fuji XT-2 and could not be happier with how it functions. When I first got this system I had similar problems. I was so frustrated that I called B & H for authorization to return. Their Rep told me that the problem might be firmware not up to date. He walked me through the firmware update process and when completed the system worked perfectly. I suggest that you check the firmware version and update if the latest version is not installed. I hope that you get everything working.

CWW:
Godox makes a remote camera trigger HERE, but I’ve never seen any info about the flash trigger system being capable of triggering a camera. I use it for flash only and the new transmitter works so much better for that.

That is the output when set on manual. In the TTL mode the system determines the output regardless of the setting on the transmitter

you also need to make sure the flash is in slave mode and that the wireless radio is turned on there is a button with a lightening bolt on the flash to turn the wireless on. Once it is on the wireless antenna symbol will appear on the top left corner of the flashes screen. I also have the adorama (flashpoint) branded godox for my sony a99ii and it works flawlessly.. I have both the pro and the xt 1 transmitters and they both work..
