Congrats! Great shot, says so much. Wonder how many miles of yarn that hand has spun. The muscle in the thumb speaks volumes. Thanks for posting.

I wondered about that. I watched her for quite awhile. Everything moves except the forefinger. The spindle really twirls fast. She had a small ball of wool in her other hand and the spindle would pull the strands off it. It takes a lot of practice to do this.

It was in Chamula, a Mayan town near San Cristobal in Chiapas, Mexico. She was sitting just off the plaza in front of a feed and grain store steps. I think she has probably sat in that same spot for a very long time.

I entered this image in an art show (both 2-D and 3-D art) that was a challenge between the local art league and the art students at the local university. I won Best of Show! I was shocked and quite pleased. Just wanted to share the joy!

Congratulations

Rick

Well, you have a good eye for picking winners, no doubt. It just seems curious that an Art League and art students as you describe would pick a "straight" photo as winner (with excellent sharpening, of course). Or do you think it's avant grade because of the crop, as most would show the entire body?

I certainly wouldn't call it avant guard, and actually some people like straight photos that tell a story or make a point. I guess the judge was one of those. And yes, it is really odd that a photograph would win at an art show. But it happens occasionally.
