4k grabs
What experience do you have for video settings with the INTENT to pull frame grabs in order to not have blurry images. I dont care about video quality reltive to cine smoothness blah blah blah

I am shooting the Songkran festival here in Thailand this weekend (weekend layover on a business trip to thailand and shanghai). The water fight shots will be a perfect test.

Will use my 5dMkIV which can do 4k @30fps. Not a killer 4k video beast but the glass is much better than the gopro :-)

Will post some samples of frame grabs vs stills next week. Look for Songkran in the title and I will post my settings and results.

Others who have examples are free to add images to their responses in rhis chat stream..This is a free for all ...

Not sure what your question is but I use my 5DIV for 4K frame grab.
The image is smaller but still good.
Make sure youhave the right memory card in the
camera, slower cards will not work.
The manual tells you how to do it so read the manual. Also, lots of Utube videos.
Good luck and have fun.

Question is settings and tips to get the closest results from an IQ perspective to a still photo.

At 30fps, the recommended shutter speed is 1/60 sec. But that is not fast enough to stop motion so you might raise your shutter speed to something like 1/200 sec to set the video for sharper screen grabs. But you will then need to raise your iso to compensate for the faster shutter speed. However if you also want to use the video, this will give you a choppy looking video. However if your intent is purely for screen grabs that won't be an issue. No one can tell you what settings because we don't know what the lighting will be or how fast the action will be you want to freeze, or how fast your lens is, etc. This is something you will have to figure out through trial and error and doing some testing.

My "INTENT" is to shoot video, not to try to imitate movie cameras that used film. The result is that it looks like digital video if I play it as a video. It also means frame grabs can be better.

How? Ignore the 30fps means 1/60th shutter speed rule that, in daylight, means you need ND filters. Let the camera, or direct the camera, to use higher shutter speeds to your taste.

In the end, the video will look like video and you can get surprising frame grabs.

You might flunk if you are entering a film festival that need "filmic blur".
