Dear friends,
I am ready to purchase a Tamron 100-400 lens and just noticed that it's an FX model. My Nikon D7200 is a DX. Would it be compatible to use on my camera?
Many thanks.

Yes, with crop factor adjustment it would effectively be a 150 to 600mm. If you have a lens that has a focal length of 150mm in its range you may want to scope out some shots with it set there because with the new lens that will be your minimum focal length.

From the ad:

Spanning a versatile range of long focal lengths, this telephoto zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with DX models where it will provide a 150-600mm equivalent focal length range

Yes it will work but the angle of view will be the same as a 150-600 on a Full Frame camera The crop factor for a DX is 1.5 so multiply the focal length(s) of any lens by 1.5x to get your apparent field of view compared to a Full Frame lens. This is a function of the sensor size not the focal length. FX lenses can be used on DX bodys with no problem. DX lenses on a FX body will cause a problem because they were designed for a smaller sensor the image projected on a FF sensor isn't large enough to cover it.

I have this lens and use it on a D7100 and it works very well. I suggest that you review the warranty certification process on receiving the lens as Tamron requires you to send them a copy of your sales receipt along with their email acknowledging your initial registration (you can scan it & email it to them). Seems a bit cumbersome but that is their policy. Enjoy your new lens.

Yes, it will work. So will the Nikon 200-500 mm f5.6. In fact, the 200-500 is a better lens than the 100-400. REALLY.
