Geeze!, with that long screw on that thing, you would have to be careful. Or you might! skewer your cameras innards.

Interesting, but Walmart has a $10 gun rest/monopod in the sporting goods dept. Has a padded "V" rest on top that can be removed to expose a standard tripod screw and has 3 sections so is a lot easier to carry than this one!!

I thought it to be a fun project and people have asked in the past, but I SO agree!

Just attach a piece of string or cord to the 1/4-20 thread for the tripod and make it long enough to reach the ground when you hold the camera up to your eye. Tie a flat washer on the ground end ot the string. Put your foot on the washer and lift the camera to your eye, stretching the string tight. You would be amazed how well it works. I would say this is actually the cheapest monopod. ( one piece of long string a 1/4-20 bolt and a flat washer)

I would think that is more of a stabilizer for motion where a monopod helps with the weight. They both have their uses of course.

I think whether your holding it up or holding it down if it is a single attachment it is still "mono". Details, details, details. Jeez, it was just an opinion.

Interesting, but for various reasons I think I'll just stick with my fiberglass Gitzo mono.

I'll take the good 'ol nylon cord with a 1/4-20 bolt one one end and fender washer on the on the other. Works great, weighs an ounce, fits in a pocket and it's non-lethal.
