Take a picture on basic, small size. The go to this site and upload the image. Works great on everything I've tried except Canon. https://www.camerashuttercount.com

If you have a MAC and Nikon this is an easy way to find shutter count. Here is a link.

No software needed. Preview has the ability to give you shutter count.

Lots of choices for a Nikon DSLR -

http://regex.info/exif.cgi
Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info. Or you can just press I and/or E to get lots of info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

Nikonshuttercount.com
You will need to take a picture with the camera, go to the web site and download that image and the site will come up with the shutter count. This site works with most Nikon DSLR's.

If you buy from Roberts (https://usedphotopro.com/), they'll show you pictures of the body you'd be buying and they tell you the shutter count.

Otherwise, as people have pointed out, you'd need to get a recent image from the camera and pull the shutter count out of the image's metadata.

I had Canon 5D11 repaired and the shutter count went back to 0. The camera had shot 15,000 frames.

how do you retrieve photos from a LR catalog? Also all photos coming into LR are B&W and I have to click on reset to get color back??

Strictly speaking you don’t get photos from the Lightroom catalog; the catalog doesn’t contain the photos.

In the catalog you can right-click on an image and select “Show in Explorer or Finder” depending on your operating system.

If the images show up B&W in LR do you have Monochrome selected in camera or a monochrome import preset selected in LR?
