I have a friend who wants to replace her Nikon D-80 which she uses for family photos and in her real estate business with a newer and more capable model. Other than the real estate photos for which she uses a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, she's strictly a casual shooter, not interested in new lenses. Her other lenses are Nikon 28-80 and 70-300 which came with the camera. Being a Canon user since their first autofucus slrs, I know little about the Nikon camera line. My last Nikon was an N-90. Would appreciate suggestions about which Nikon bodies (New or Nikon refurb, if possible) with which she can use both the older Nikon lenes with no focusing motors built in, along with the newer lens with integral focusing motor.

To me the issue what is her budget? At the high end, Nikon D500.
Simple - used or refurb Nikon d7100 or d7200 - both have motors, both are great cameras and fairly inexpensive. I just posted some pics with my d7100 and Tokina 11-16mm. I also have a Nikon d750 and have had other Nikons. So, that's my two cents.
Yup, agree with the above, D7100 or D7200 would be perfect for what she's doing.
Same here, d7100 or 7200. I bought my d7100 a couple years ago and I think it is the last camera I will ever need. Happy shopping.

I agree with those who suggested the D7100/D7200 cameras. But you might as well spend the extra money and get the D7200, refurbished for around $700-$800. The D7200 has a better buffer than the D7100. Check Cameta Camera Shop. They have a good reputation for selling refurbished Nikon DSLRs.
Another vote for the D7x00's
Hi
I do have a D7200 I am sacrificing with fewer than 400 shutter actuations.
It was purchased late last year with a 3 year transferable warranty.
This is a great situation for you to capitalize one!

Yes I agree. Get a refurbished D7200. You can get one for what you would pay for a new D5500. Stay away from the D7500 JUNK. I have a D500 and love it. I am more of a Semi-Pro photographer. If you want to jump into the fast lane and learn how to use your camera in other than the Program mode then get a D7200 or D500. Look on Amazon, B&H, and ebay. There are a few used D500's popping up now too. The best part os that you can use all your lenses with these cameras.
Hi
My name is Jim. I purchased this D7200 as a backup for event shooting. I have to have surgery which puts my shoots on hold for who knows how long.
I have all original materials received from purchase to include:
receipts
box
manuals
strap
bodycap
battery
and a 3 year transferable accident drop replacement warranty
I can sell it a price very comparable to refurb.
Plus, the original warranty has approximately 5 months left on it.
I can be contacted at 248 554 0870 or chats004@gmail.com
To all who took the trouble to post replies to my request for Nikon advice for my friend: Thank you very much. This is the best place in the world to get plain unvarnished information from people with no agenda other than to help. Looks like the consensus agrees on the D7100 or D7200 so I will do some research on each to pass on to her what each can do for her.
Again, thank you...Jim

What does the D-80 no longer do that she feels the need for something better??
