The jaguar is the largest of the New World cats; of all of the big cats, only the lion and tiger are larger. Males are usually larger than females and may weigh as much as 250 pounds. Jaguars are equal to leopards in height and length, but are much more powerfully built. They can, for example, use their powerful jaws to break large bones. They are skilled swimmers and agile climbers.

The smallest of all canids, fennec foxes sport extraordinarily large ears that help them hunt at night. They are native to Africa and Arabia where they live in deserts and arid regions. Their coats are long, soft, and thick and range in color from reddish cream to light fawn to almost white. Their undersides are pure white, and their tails are bushy with black tips.

The Chattanooga Zoo is a 13-acre zoological park located in Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The zoo was established in 1937 by the City of Chattanooga. The zoo has been accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 1998. The Chattanooga Zoo is actively involved in conservation efforts, specifically the AZA's Species Survival Plan which manages the breeding, conservation, and welfare of endangered species throughout AZA accredited facilities in North America.

The Blue-crowned Motmot lives in Costa Rica. These colorful birds have thin tails that end with two round feathers known as racquet-tipped tails. It is common for motmots to swing their tail plumage in a pendulum motion, earning them the nickname "clock birds."

Scientists at Lincoln Park Zoo help conserve Bali mynahs by keeping the studbook for the species. Studbooks contain the family trees of every individual animal in the zoo population. By pairing animals that are distantly related, zoo scientists can help ensure that offspring are genetically healthy.

The Green tree python spends almost its entire life in trees. Strong, prehensile tail enables the snake to eat while hanging from a branch. These snakes have been known to reach a length of 7 feet, but the average adult is up to 4 feet long.

The African Wild Dog has a richly patterned coat, with yellow, white, brown, black and red markings. Adults are roughly the same size as large domestic dogs, weighing up to 80 pounds and reaching 3.5 feet in length. Large, round ears help the species communicate with pack mates and shed the heat of its environment.

Thank you Rich! The exercise over the past few weeks of reworking images has uncovered a flurry of shooting activity in 2016 that have sat mostly forgotten on my harddrive since then. Glad you enjoyed.

Thank you maggiemae! I know I scan the keeper notes when at the zoo, but really, I learn more from looking up notes about the animals later. Glad you enjoyed.

LOL myviewphotos! I've studied this close image a few times to understand what I'm seeming mouth-wize. A smile wasn't an idea I'd considered. Great thought.

Thank you insman1132! A jaguar is unique to my zoo experiences as they don't have them here in Chicago. Glad you enjoyed.
