Hi all, I live in a rural part of Tennessee and have an old Nikon 8700 dslr I can't get into aperture priority so am resigned to shipping it out for repair unless anyone can recommend a repair shop in either Knoxville or Nashville. Any recommendations?

Drury’s camera shop is Nashville’s only camera shop and they do minor repairs once a month. They have someone come in from Atlanta for two days.

You may find the repair is more than the camera is worth. Start local as your problem may be something simple. If the camera needs to go back to the "mothership" be repaired, think seriously about how important that camera is to you. When I had issues with my Nikon, it cost me $250 just to have Nikon look at it and it was in the hospital for a month. The fix didn't last and I wound up getting a new camera anyway. Good luck!

No such thing as a Nikon 8700 DSLR.

Maybe a Nikon Coolpix 8700? Which is a pocket camera and seldom worth repairing.

Or maybe a Nikon D700 which is a DSLR and definitely worth repairing.

Your Nikon 8700 is a camera that dates back to 2004. It has 8 megapixels, enough to get you some very nice images. I am not familiar with it, a friend of mine that already passed away had one.
Perhaps what the camera has needs a simple repair, I do not really know that but what I do know is that the cost of repairing cameras today could be astronomical. If you had someone locally or near by who could take a look at the camera and tell you how much it could cost to repair it then you could have a good idea if it was worth it to keep it.
Nikon has many modern and better entry level cameras that you could buy in the second hand market at attractive prices and their kit lenses are very good optically. Think about that before you invest in costly repairs.

Do you mean a Coolpix 8700? It's not a DSLR and I think you can simply buy a used working one cheap.

rjriggins11 from this site does camera and lens repair. I used him about a month ago and his service is excellent. Very fast and reasonable. He also kept in touch with me on my lens arrival and shipping it out.
Highly recommend!

The problem will be having parts to repair a camera that came out in 2004. Nikon has told owners of the D200 and the D300, that because of a lack of parts, they can no longer repair those cameras anymore. How sad that is. It may be the same with the OP's camera.

I found a number of the Coolpix 8700 on ebay for around $100 fully functioning. Can the camera be fixed for less?

Find out how much it costs to buy a used one in good condition. That will tell you how much you should be willing to pay to get it repaired.

It may be time for a new camera.
