I was really pleased with this image, of course I may be a little biased. I would like feed back on what I could do to improve it. I have not posted it on Photo Analysis because I do not have a specific question. I would just like comments on what could be done to improve it overall.

I would like to see more of the mill. Maybe make it a bit lighter. It is a very engaging shot and i like it a lot.

Thank you brucebc, The mill is 3 stories high and overwhelms the wheel. I did not like it the way it looked if I just cropped off part of the mill.

Do they ever use the mill for demonstrations? We have Benson's mill about 10 miles down the road and they run it on summer weekends.

This mill is also run on weekends during the warmer weather. They run it about 10 or 15 minutes every hour.

I think the composition would work a lot better if you cropped the photo to 4x5 staying to the right.

Bob, excellent photo.

I live about 20 minutes from Yates Mill Pond and go there about once a month to take some photos. I am glad to see other UHH members who have been there.

If you're going to keep that perspective, I would have put the wheel to the left center of the shot and try to grab more of the rock wall.

I am still learning LightRoom. How do I crop to 4X5? I assume it would be done in the develop module but I can't figure out how to do it.

Thanks for your input I will try to get back to shoot it again and recompose as suggested.

Im sorry I can't help you with how to do this in Lightroom. I use photoshop. Im sure there is a cropping tool and I would imagine it has some preset options. Original ratio. unrestricted. This has to be something easy and pretty straightforward.

OK thanks. Norwalk brings back many fond memories. I used to live in Jewett City and Gales Ferry when I was riding submarines out of Groton.

It’s a great shot as it is. I might have lightened up the shadows just a little bit to bring out the detail.
