I would like to purchase a policy for my camera equipment, I am not a professional, I would just like to get a policy to cover my investment, is their any companies that would cover my Nikon D850 and a couple of lenses ? Thanks

I would recommend a google search. Just enter

camera equipment insurance

You'll be presented with a number of agencies, as well as assessments of agencies.

Why not just put it on your house insurance as a rider?

Contact your homeowners or renters policy. You can add a scheduled property rider also called a personal property floater. The cost to insure camera equipment is very reasonable and your company.may even cover stupid or foolish behavior which results in damage, dropping the camera, etc.

Best answer, unless you want to “cover stupid or foolish behavior which results in damage, dropping the camera, etc.”. This has merit, as I worry about dropping my camera over-board when on a boat. I doubt my homeowners rider covers that. But, it’s usually considerably more expensive for coverage that lenient. But to give an idea, my homeowner’s rider for over $12,000 coverage costs less than $200/year. The itemized list of covered equipment has to be kept current to ensure coverage. So, when you buy that new body/lens, and you want it covered, you’ll need to call your agent soon.

Most likely a rider on your home insurance or perhaps rental insurance policy. Triple A covers mine on a rider as they carry my home and auto insurance.

We have a separate policy with USAA called Valuable Personal Property that covers my wife's jewelry & my camera gear. It covers everything including dropping it overboard. Check with your homerowner's or rental policy company.

Your Home owners policy. If stolen you must pay for police report.

Florida no longer has homeowner's insurance. We have to go through a government-mandated risk product. It does not offer personal property riders. It really stinks - I used to have State Farm before they pulled out of Florida, and had a nice personal property rider.

Other options: if you are a veteran USAA offers personal property insurance. Joining an organization such as NANPA allows access to insurance programs. But other than a rider on homeowner's or a policy through USAA, most of the policies I have found are pretty expensive ($350 per year or so).

My camera's are covered under my home owners insurance. My agent has a list of my equipment with serial numbers. I also have a file with photo's of each piece and then a close up of the serial number of each piece. It is covered for loss if stolen on a trip, but not drops.

The only problem with insurance is that at some point they will not insure multiple cameras and lenses on a homeowners policy—you are considered professional.

Professional business policies are very expensive even with USAA-using the Hartford. So for the $650 annual cost I purchased a 650 lb gun safe with padded shelves. Took 4 men to get in my studio on a hydronic dolly. I have never dropped a camera or lost one on sight in 30 years, so that takes care of theft, Fire, and flood damage to my cameras, lenses, guns and valuable papers.
