Anybody using this camera on a regular basis and what are your thoughts? Looking for camera to sneak into events that dont allow “professional” cameras.

It's what I now use for pocket size needs. I'm configured to record both JPEG and RAW and have tested the processing when using just the camera and a phone for posting from the road. To my needs the in-camera RAW processing proved to be a better result than taking the JPEG to the limited tools on my phone. The bluetooth from camera to phone takes an additional download of Canon software to the phone to make it work. But, once you get the hang of it, the process works fine. The RAW processing via DPP makes a significant difference / improvement on lens corrections for when you get back and process the CR2 files with a computer.

Other useful features: the in-camera stabilization, manual mode and flash exposure compensation. The aperture mode in low light seems to select around 1/30 for the shutter. Overriding in manual to a bit faster shutter tends to give me better macro results when handholding. Manually adjusting the flash output gives a lot capability and shooting options.

I am using the camera the same way... compact and light.
i wish it had a viewfinder but the size wont allow it.
the fold out screen easily allows low level photos without crawling on the ground.. useful once in awhile.

despite the wireless connection I prefer to use a cable download... easier to do and faster if the internet is poor as when you may travel. The camera did not come with the cable and it uses a micro connection... not the same as every Canon camera I have...had to buy it separately.

takes excellent pictures though. I think its a winner.

I love this as a travel camera. Great low light performance and sharp images. Good for street photography as well.

Aside from size, what is the difference in specs between the G7X and the G9X?

Great equipment. This has become my walk around/everyday and mostly travel camera. The results are as awesome as the ease of use. Have not experienced any problem with the G7X being allowed in events or places I attend. Menu is intuitive and manual capabilities abound. Nice fast lens. The only drawback for me is the limited zoom range; however, I have found the majority of my shots (90+ per cent) don’t require anything this camera can’t deliver. I have found the color saturation to be extremely nice and more than acceptable.

I think (but could be mistaken) the G3X, G5X, G7X, and G9X have the same 1" sensor, but each has features that distinguish it from the others (such as a eye view finder in the G5X, and a long zoom in the G3X).

Thank you all for the info. I just picked one up tonight and am pleased with what I have seen so far. I have always shot Nikon so this was something different as I am unfamiliar with Canon equipment. But after an hour or so I am comfortable with the controls.

I am a Nikon shooter as well with years of experience with film and digital Nikon Cameras, but now I also own two Canon cameras and find them great tools to add to my photo gear.
