Welcome to our forum. I have a D300s and D800. Like them both. You have a great new lens. Post some images.
I have on my bucket list to go to your Palouse area in January to photograph that beautiful landscape.

24mm f/2.8 lens on a D300s to me is a waste of the lens.

While I have newer bodies, there is something about the D300 that makes me use it quite often. It could be the lower resolution gives noticeably smooth backgrounds. My 24 F/2.8 is an old "D" model. I think anyone who ever used this combo would realize that it is not a waste, but actually a great combination.

In spite of what our resident killjoy might say, I think you will enjoy it.

Welcome to "The Hog".

Welcome! The 300s makes a fine camera and I’m partial to wide lenses. You’ll have fun with that!

It's a great DX format camera!
I still use mine occasionally.
Years ago when I shot (film) for the newspaper, I had 2 bodies: always had a 35mm lens on one (35mmf/2).
With a DX-sensored camera like the D300, that 24mm is as close as you will get to the 35mm equivalent.
I'd still prefer something faster than a 2.8 though.
Unless I was shooting sports, the 85mm was on the other camera body.
I didn't even own a 50mm.

It's a good lens for the FX format but is not sharp enough for the DX format. Lenses for the DX format has to be sharper than the FX format yet you're paying the for the larger format.

so, it would be better for my D610 than my dx bodies?
