D mount lens.
I also have the 17-35 AF-s F/2.8D, 300 AF-s F/4.0D, and a 500 AF-s f/4.0D --- I had the 28-70 but it died. They have motors in the lenses.
So either Kenny is wrong, or you misread something. As has been said by those who Know, "D" indicates nothing but that the lens reports distance.
I also have 3 "D" lenses that are not AF-s, 24mm F2.8, 50mm F/1.4, 105 f/2.8 Macro. They need a body with a motor. The d has nothing to do with focus.
Maybe you should actually look at some lenses!
Look for the "D" on the lens barrel after the maximum aperture.

There actually is a 'D-mount' .... also a 'C-mount'. Both were generic mounts used by small movie cameras. I believe the 'D-mount' was slightly smaller. The 'C-mount' has been used by security systems, with Canon and Pentax providing new lenses for them. I have a few of each mount - I believe the lens below is 'C-mount', but I'm not positive.
C-mount would have the threads on the outside ( like an m-42 screw mount)!
