This lens is very hard to find and usually has to be purchased from Japan.
***IMPORTANT HARD TO FIND DETAILS***
Here is what to look for:
● Only one row of rubber ribs on the metal focus ring. Older versions of the 50/1.8 had two or three rows of rubber ribs.
● "NIKKOR," not "Series E," engraved around the front of the lens.
● First digit of the serial number is a 2, not a 1, 3 or 4, engraved on the front of the lens.
● 1.5'/0.45 meter close focus distance on the focus ring.
● 100% metal construction, except for the ribbed rubber band on the metal focus ring.

Hi Carl, lens is not listed as rare but hard to find. Please read the details of the post and tell me where to find now and where in the US it was sold new. Have a great holiday.

Just a little info on your lens - 2050001, first - 2268017, last; is the range of serial numbers for this lens. 2255877 - 2266119 is the range of serial numbers for the same lens except these have a solid rear lens protector. They all were manufactured in Japan from 1980- Oct. 1982. You have the best 50mm 1.8 ever made by most accounts, however, they are not that hard to find as eBay has at least a half-dozen or more listed. I won't mention price as whoever reads this can check that out themselves. Good shooting to you!

I enjoyed reading the Ken Rockwell review of this lens. However his review indicates the lens is readily available and it’s value is as of Feb. 2018 at about $100. Any chance your price will change?

I don't know what your point is. I am NOT interested in your lens and was only pointing out some interesting and helpful info about the lens and correcting your "hard to find" claim. Also, FYI: this lens is easy to disassemble, remove fungus and reassemble. Your lens looks pristine and I wish you good luck on the sale of it. Good shooting to you.

I still my Dad's old 1960 Nikon-F with a 50mm f/1.4 prime. I was thinking of having it modified so that it will fit my Nikon D750. They were excellent lenses back then. But I need to look into the above 1.8 that you are referring to. Of course it will not autofocus but I don't care about that. There was no autofocus back in the early 1960s anyway.

Try your dads 1.4, on your 750 no modifications needed as far as I know.

The tech guys at Hunt's Photo & Video just outside of Boston told me that this lens would need modifying to fit the D750. Cost would be about $80.

Ok, I trust Hunts to know more than me, they are really one of the best places to deal with.
