Photoshop Collage question

I'm using LR to select 300 photos and use 'Open as Layers in photoshop'. When in Photoshop I create a New comp. and then move each layer (pic) into the New comp. I wind up with 300 pics in the new comp. The question is how can I tell which layer a single pic is on in the New comp so that I can edit it? Looks like when the 300 are in the New comp they become one single entity. I can go into the Layers panel and click the hide/unhide icon to locate/edit the single pick in the New comp, but I have to go through every layer to find the one pic I need to edit. There must be a way to select single pic in the New comp. without going through all that. Help is definitely needed.

Activate the Move tool, then click on the image you want to work on. The layer for that image will be selected and you can then edit the image.

I don't know what it means when you say "I create a New comp." Do you open a new image file? Are you aware that you can simply add a background layer at the bottom and then each layer will be on its own. Then you can hold down, I think, command/control [could be option, can't recall exactly] and then click on the layer you want and work on it. Maybe more information from you would be helpful to viewers.

By COMP I mean new File so that when done I can print the New file collage. I actually have 2 windows open in Photoshop. One is the new collage file and the second is the window that holds all of my imported pics from LR. So that if I click on the 2nd window, each Pic is on it's own Layer. Now when I move the Pics (one at a time using the MOVE tool) over to the collage file, I can then edit (resize) that Pic in the collage window. When I go back to the 2nd import window I do the same for all of the imported Pics. No problem. However now when I click on window #1 all of those pics (300) become ONE selection and I cant select any single pic to edit. I need to know how I can separate that one selection of 300 pics into individual pics so I can edit it. Sorry I cant be more descriptive. Thanks for your help .

You need to use smart objects. You will need to define some actions to handle this many files.

I open the images as layers in Photoshop, convert each layer to a smart object, and create a new background layer (below the other layers). I then change the sizes of the images in each layer, move them about as needed. If you cmd-click on an image, it selects the layer. Then you can edit the layer, and adjustment layers, etc.

However, 300 images is going to be quite a processing load.

In the Move Tool you must check "Auto-Select" (layers) in the options bar.
