I think I see March 25th as his last.

You paid for an excellent camera, don't skimp too much or you will not be able to take advantage of many of the features of the camera.

I think you mean don't skimp too much or you won't be able to take advantage of the sensor of the camera. I made the point that the cheap lenses I bought don't take advantage of the sensor on my D810.

And I mean no disrespect, but anyone who doesn’t own or otherwise use the D850 should not offer advice. This is NOT a 750, 610, 500 etc., or even an 800...The 810 would be the closest but even that falls short!
If you’re not going to put the BEST glass on the camera, you really ought to sell it and get something less.
BTW...after trying all the f/1.4’s listed here (and even a couple more) I chose the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART. Phenomenal! And, in addition to dof and bokeh effects, you can take terrific shots at night or in a dimly lit room without a flash.

Are you misreading what I wrote somehow? I know exactly what a D850 is (and all the others). "You need the BEST glass that exists for that D850 camera, otherwise you are wasting your money on both! If you wanted 8 x 12 foot wall murals, now you need the glass for it! Anyone feel free to send me their horrible D810." What is there to disagree with, it seems to be pretty much what everyone one else is saying? And if you are referring to the fact that I do not own a D850 (but would not mind getting a discarded D810). I was being sarcastic. What makes you think that I do not know about other camera systems but my own Pentax one. Thru the years I used many types and formats of cameras, 35mm, 6x6cm, 6x7cm, 4x5", 8x10". At one time retailed Canon, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax, and Olympus film cameras. Often recommended Minolta as I recall. I still have two 4x5" Enlargers in storage. I read a lot of what is on the UHH and have read many photography books, taken both film and digital classes, and Photoshop classes. I feel a bit insulted and angry. I do own Nikon Enlarging and View Camera lenses and many others brands of other photo-equipment. Do you have some reason for singling me out and misspelling my name? Geeze, I did not even make a Nikon vs Canon vs Sony bitching comparison. I just said in other words the D850 is a great camera that needs great Lenses! Sorry...

Never apologize. Its UHH where opinions rarely count, they are like a-holes and everyone has one. LOL

More fighting in the sandbox! I own a D850, am having fun with it trying different lenses before investing in what "I" want, not what others tell me to get or need to have. Got my hands on a Tamron 24-70 G2, took it out to three different locations in one afternoon to evaluate it and took my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens from my film days at the same time. Shot the same subjects and targets with both lenses, did my best to have camera settings the same and preset the Tamron to 50mm. In most instances I got equal or slightly better resolution, sharpness and detail from the old manual Nikkor. The downside to the Tamron....WEIGHT and BULK! GOOD GRIEF! Nothing like having a lens in hand though to get a feel for it. Am not hiking the Grand Canyon or Petrified Forest or Mount Rainier or MSHNVM with that Tamron G2 on my D850 unless I have a burro along to pack it for me!

Exactly, note, I and others were talking to the OP about buying lenses for a D850, not using lenses he or she already has. As noted before, I don't own a D850 but I do try different lenses that I already have on the different bodies that I have. And I often find the vintage ones are the best.

The Nikon 50mm f/1.4 has used the same optical formula from the first AI lens in the 70s through the AF D version, still in production. If you can excuse some softness wide open, it's an excellent lens. It is also a lightweight and no bother to carry around on a camera or in a bag. I don't know how it would perform on a D850. I don't own one. I can say that it has crossed the threshold of being perfectly fine on my D810.

You will have to download these files and zoom in to see what I'm talking about.

Nikon D810. 50mm F/1.4 AF D. JPEG SOOC. ISO 400 1/1000 f/11 I've uploaded this before. I don't need any more than this, even though I know that there are lenses that test much better than this one, particularly the Sigma. I have a few other lenses I'll replace before replacing this one.

Sigma 20mm f1.4 is around $900 and it's very nice lens.

That is if you don't use Sigma 120-300, but then we are talking about $3400. This gives pictures as sharp as primes.

Since you’re a D850 man I have a related question.
I used a D200 for years but finally caved and bought a D810 with which I’ m very pleased. Just getting used to the D810 when I read over the top comments on the D850. i’d appreciate any comments as to the advantages of the D850 over the D810. Portraiture, low light and cars.

Try this site: www.cameradecision.com; you can compare any two cameras to each other. Pretty complete.
